    • How "accurate" will Guard Duty be?

      Hello,

so I'm a bit of a Half Life fan, and despite their age, I still adore the old Half Life 1 games. I freaking loved Black Mesa: Source, and when you guys release your two remakes of the add-on packs when you can finally say "it's done", I will definetly be first in line to download and play the death your vision of the HL1 expansions.

So, I wanted to ask a curious question, how close will Guard Duty be towards Blue Shift? See, while I do love HL1, I must admit, I do feel Blue Shift was the weakest out of the 4 HL1 games (Decay not being much better either), and I think it's safe to say that alot of Half Life fans aren't massive fans of Blue Shift either.

So, do you feel differently, and that Blue Shift is a really great game, and that the remake will try to be as close as possible to emulate it. Or do you feel that Blue Shift was an expansion that could really use improvement, and that your version may differ quite significantly?

Thanks for any answer, and good luck on the rest of the project.

While I'm not speaking for the rest of the team, personally I share your opinion in regard to Blue Shift. It had its moments, but the overall experience was too little of the inferior same.

It is always on our radar to iron out parts that were straight up annoying or fix obvious flaws, within both Opposing Force and Blue Shift.
It's also good to keep in mind that our projects are labeled as "re-imaginations" rather than strict "remakes" which leaves room for potential improvement.

However, at this stage we can't go into details. A reasonable balance between marginal improvement and getting the actual development work done needs to be maintained.

I do agree with your mind step. I think it's great that you guys will try and put your own vision of Blue Shift, and that I think it will be the better for it.

I always felt that Blue Shift's objectives felt very aimless, unlike Half-Life's which always let me know what I needed to do, Blue Shift I just went around hitting buttons if any where there in the vain hope of figuring out what I needed to do.

Duty Calls especially I thought was bad in that regard. You had to active a lift switch, then go into another map to get around to lift, while activating a generator for some reason, so that you can use the absolutely coincidental explosive box on it to blow up the water rotors to get through. Really baffled me the first time I played.

Hell, the level even had a ladder which went nowhere but into the dark abyss underneath the catwalk. I imagine your vision of that level especially will be far more succient and sensical.

Thank God,Blue Shift felt more like a mediocre Half-Life map pack.

Is the story of Barney will be extended after teleportation from the labs of Black Mesa by Tripmine team? As we know in Hl2 the story takes place in Europe. Will you show how he got out from America with Kleiner anf Ilay with other scientists?
There might be some extension, but we are going to keep it a surprise ;)
