Heya, guys! I'm Chris, but I also go by Crypt if you prefer something more internety. I've been a member of Tripmine Studios for a little over 3 years now. I originally joined as a level designer, but recently I've been picking up hard-surface prop modelling and texture art to help even the workload. That'll be what this blog is about!
This devblog is where I'll be posting some of the props I create for OBM and GD. I'm not the most talented 3D guy on the team so I generally do a lot of smaller props, so that will be the majority of what I post here. This'll also probably be more like a showcase than a blog, but I hope some of you guys take interest regardless!
So a few things before I start showing you guys the good stuff: Firstly, I'm personally open to any and all criticism, though I may not necessarily accommodate it. Most if not all of what I show will be finished or near-finished, but I'll still be interested in reading what everyone has to say about the props, and potentially make changes accordingly, case-by-case. Lastly, I'm totally open for discussion directly related to this devblog and general 2D/3D stuff, but won't pay any attention to any questions about totally unrelated stuff. And if your question's in the FAQ I'll probably just mock you. This means you, guy who's about to ask for a release date!
Anyway, let's get on with it.
Firstly, some older, smaller stuff I did. When I first started doing props for us I immediately became potty king and crapped out these suckers:
I did a bunch of other misc stuff, mostly restroom stuff (Seriously, look at a restroom in-game, it's basically my portfolio, ahahaha) but none of that's all too interesting to look at.
More recently, level designer Tmast requested our own version of this here AC Unit (which itself is a remake of a CS:S prop), so I went ahead and obliged:
I'm particularly happy with how this one turned out since the texture is mostly comprised of pictures I took myself. ^~^ The fan also spins 'n' stuffs:
Next up, I figured while I was doing big metal stuff I should try out this door:
We had a version of this door that was made I don't know how long ago, probably long before I even joined the team. But it was clearly either horribly rushed and probably a placeholder of sorts. It really stuck out in quality, so this will serve as its replacement.
As for what I'm currently working on, I've decided to take on a larger, more important model; a weapon model for MP. I'm not so sure it's gonna get any major appearances in this or future blog posts so you'll have to wait for it to appear in a media release some other time.
