    • RE: Questions: About GD / OBM

Ok, I guess ill start with a few questions.

      1. What project is furthest in development, OBM or GD?

      2. How far ahead are you? Is it playable with ingame enemies and NPCs and such? Is the drill sergeant screaming in our faces yet?

      3. Are you sticking with the original HL-ish design or will the mod be more realistic? For instance, will the marines have realistic uniforms and equipment or are you still using the "cartoonish" HL style uniforms?

      4. Will the mods share anything? Like will we ever go to the same areas/meet the same people or is it even possible that Shephard and Calhoun will even spot each other somewhere?

      5. Will there be new enemies/chapters/weapons/donuts?

Keep up the good work! You will hear from me again soon ...

      1) Hard to say. I think OBM can be further a little bit? It's hard, due to the huge difference in terms of lenght.

      2) Some NPCs are in-game, but there is still a lot of work left. Quite a lot of weapons is in-game already. Still few pieces left in terms of animations and coding.

      3) I would say it's something in-between? We still have the Hl-ish feel to them, but there is inspiration from the reality as well.

      4) Yes, we share the models, weapons, characters. But we don't have plans to make Shephard meet Calhoun.

      5) Yes and now. No new enemies, nor weapons (new weapons can be possibly added in form of update to the multiplayer though). Chapters? We have plans to extend the games, so expect something new here, especially in Guard Duty. And donuts? We will bring many new types with tasty fillings ;)

Are you considering female security guards a la Azure Sheep?

Yeah we want to add female security guards

Just correction. we plan only female scientists, not guards.

Is Guard Duty's HUD going to remain similar to the recolored Half-Life style, or is it getting a fancy theme similar to OBM?

I believe it makes more sense to keep it somehow simple, similar to Half-Life.

How long will each part of a map be before you load into the next section of one? For example, in HL2, the periods of play were really short before you had to sit through another loading screen to get to the next part of the level.

Loading points will be very similar, if not exactly the same in some cases, to the ones in the original games.
Most maps are extended to some degree though, so I feel its safe to say that players can expect a bit more play time between loading screens.

Hi, I just re-descovered these two mods after forgetting about them for a while, and had a few questions.....Well, really one main one in particular since the infamous Black Mesa: Source mod has finally been (partially) released:

Are you guys planning on using the same weapon view/world models as the ones in Black Mesa: Source for weapons shared between Black Mesa: Source and OBM/GD, and also the same enemies, resources, and the occasional map shared by the games? (i.e. Weapons: MP5, Spas 12, RPG, frags, satchels, tripmines, snarks, and the crowbar, revolver and crossbow just in GD. Enemies/Characters: Scientists, HECU Marines, Security Guards, all Xenian aliens, Black Op females. Resources: Health / HEV chargers, crates, ammunition worldmodels etc...and then with maps, I'm mainly talking about the Lambda teleportation lab that Shephard enters just as Freeman teleports out and the hallway that Calhoun sees Freeman being dragged down by marines at the end of GD) I'm just curious, and I understand if it could be an issue because you guys are separate from the Black Mesa dev team, and getting their permission to use their items in your game could be problematic. The animations for the weapons wouldn't have to be the exact same like they were in the original 3 games (I actually think varying reload animations would be a good idea considering the varying firearms training levels of the 3 protagonists (untrained scientist, Gordon, moderately trained security guard, Barney, and heavily trained marine, Adrian), but the original games having the same world/view models for the weapons, and the identical characters, resources and maps shared between them gave me this sense of continuity that all three of these story-lines were happening around the same time and focused on the same disaster....I have no video game development experience, so I have no idea how hard this would be, but I feel it would be a nice nod to both the original games and to Black Mesa: Source to do this.

Ah thank you, I apologize for not noticing the FAQ before posting that, and I'd still like to thank you for your quick response, and give an even bigger thanks for you guys taking on this enormous project.....The Half-Life series is my favorite video game series by far, and I feel like Calhoun's and Shephard's stories of the Resonance Cascade are often over-shadowed by Freeman's.....When I first played all three games back in 2001, I actually liked Opposing Force the best out of all three, but this is just my personal opinion and I don't want to be hung for it, but still, its going to be great to get a chance to put on that PCV vest and those night-vision goggles in the Source engine. So thank you very much.

      Here are a few questions...

      1. Will O:BM and GD have female NPC's?

      2. Source engine 2 or Source engine 1?

3.Will this be a mod that requires half life 2 or will it be a stand alone game(s).

      4. There is a shortage of man power on O:BM and GD, what will you do about it?

      5. It is 2015 and we still don't know the status of O:BM and GD, what are you speculations of the release of the games?

      That is all... For now
